Spring Awakening

As the earth begins to warm, a subtle yet profound transformation occurs in the natural world. The cold grasp of winter loosens, and the quiet beauty of spring emerges, offering us a gentle reminder of renewal and rebirth. For me, spring is a powerful metaphor for life, especially during times of uncertainty— nature is always in motion, constantly evolving.

These last few weeks, as the dark days of winter give way to new life, I have been busy learning new art skills.  Photography, which once consumed my life, now feels like a dress that is two sizes too small.  I feel an urgency to expand my expression and what I want to say with my art.

I feel compelled to speak up for women, for nature and empathy; all are incredibly important to me and all under assault.

My challenge is that I don’t want to lose photography and hope as my foundation.

That is why, this spring I will be sharing, for the first time, my new art.  It is daunting as an artist to put something new and experimental in front of an audience that follows me for my photography, but the thick skin I have developed over many years of growth and rejection will serve me well.  And if my new artistic expression, one that, as always, will try to serve the stories of the underrepresented in a beautiful and evocative way, resonates with this audience, then my soul will vibrate with anticipation for all the art I wish to create. Stay tuned, I am excited to share my new art with you soon. Just as nature continues its cycles of renewal despite the storms it endures, I see this evolution in my work as a way to keep moving forward—to adapt, to express, to find hope even in uncertain times.

Nature doesn’t understand conflict or war. It doesn’t concern itself with inflation or economics, but it endures, reminding us that transformation is always possible.  The seasons come and go unobstructed by our human concerns.  It is important to remember that. Spring is a time to reconnect with the land we inhabit. The gentle breeze carries the scent of fresh grass and earth, awakening our senses and reminding us of the deep, sacred relationship we share with nature.

It’s a moment to recognize the delicate balance that sustains us, and to take responsibility for protecting the ecosystems that nurture all living beings.

In this season, we are given the opportunity to shed the weight of the past and open ourselves to the infinite possibilities that lie ahead. Just as flowers stretch toward the light, we too are drawn to moments of clarity and purpose. Spring invites us to pause, to take in the beauty of a world in transformation, and to remember that we too are part of this intricate web of life. Our actions, however small, can contribute to the renewal of our planet.

In a world where it’s easy to become disconnected from the cycles of nature and from each other, a new season offers a poignant reminder to ground ourselves once again. It’s a season that calls us to step outside, breathe deeply, and reflect on our place within the broader story of life.

As the days lengthen and the light intensifies, let us also renew our commitment to the planet and future generations who will inherit its beauty.
